Based on the history of the workers' movement, the article outlines a normative concept of solidarity. Central categories here are commonality in goals, voluntary solidarity, reciprocity of solidarity practices and orientation towards effectiveness. To what extent does today's solidarities correspond to this historical model? This is discussed with regard to neoliberal solidarity during the Corona crisis, national solidarity in the Ukraine crisis and global solidarity in the climate crisis. This also opens up a perspective on solidarity as a real utopia, on solidarity as an ethically based and politically transformative practice.
