Können Glaube und Politik noch zueinander finden? Perspektiven der Politischen Theologie nach Metz

Abstract

Wenn heutzutage nach einer fundamentaltheologischen Begründung eines Zusammenhanges von Glaube und Politik gefragt wird, scheint ein Dreifaches geboten: Erstens müssen die grundlegenden Erkenntnisse der so genannten neuen Politischen Theologie, wie sie sich paradigmatisch im Werk von Johann Baptist Metz finden, gesichert, aber auch aktualisiert werden. Zweitens müssen die Reflexionsdefizite dieses Ansatzes sowie veränderte gesellschaftliche Bedingungen, insbesondere der fortgeschrittene religiöse und weltanschauliche Pluralismus, Berücksichtigung finden. Und drittens sollten die theologische Legitimität dieses Ansatzes untermauert, seine Methodologie weiter präzisiert und mögliche neue Anwendungsfelder skizziert werden. Der Aufsatz versucht in diesem Sinne eine Aktualisierungen der Politischen Theologie.

If one is asking these days for a fundamental theological justification of the connection between faith and politics, one ought to keep three things in mind: Firstly, the fundamental insights by the so-called new Political Theology, as they are paradigmatically found in the work of Johann Baptist Metz, are both to be critically demonstrated and updated. Secondly, the deficits of this approach have to be taken into account as well, i.e., the societal conditions have shifted particularly with regard to an advanced pluralism of religious and other worldviews. And, thirdly, in reaction to both this societal shift and the critique of the present political theology the theological legitimacy of this approach needs to be reinforced, its methodology needs to be further specified, and potential new fields of application need to be sketched. With this in mind, the article develops the outline for a revised Political Theology.
