In light of their pluralized nature, contemporary societies depend significantly on communication across diverse differences. This paper engages challenges of intercultural communication within the context of ongoing societal transformations and shifts in discourse. The argument is made for a stronger consideration of the socially and discursively constructed nature of cultural attributions. Building on a critical-phenomenological perspective, experiences of otherness are described in terms of their interactive and discursive dynamics. Based on this, a resonance-theoretical approach is proposed to complement traditional models of successful intercultural communication and suggest a perspective on difference-sensitive communication.
