Abstract

The concept of solidarity is understood in very different ways, especially its scope: as a mutual relationship within a specific group – or as a comprehensive, generally boundless interpretation of the principles of love for neighbour and enemy. The plausibility of solidarity beyond its exclusively anthropocentric validity can be seen in the principle of co-creation. In view of the incarnation of Jesus Christ into creation, the associated solidarity with the vulnerable can be understood as a mandate and facilitation of solidarity within the community of creation. As an empty signifier in public and especially political debates, but also within systematic theology, there is a number of further points of reference.
